How do you best care for sneakers?
Also for sneakers, there are the basic parts of shoe care that you should consider. It's about brushing/wiping the shoes off when you get home, so that dirt doesn't settle. If the sneakers are of leather, it's recommended to put in shoe trees, so that they keep their shape, otherwise the leather will contract when drying and will crack more easily when the creases are not smoothened out.
You should also let the shoes rest for a day after use, to allow them to dry completely, which is especially important with sneakers that often have quite a lot of padding that soaks up moisture and takes time to dry. Shoes that are damp will wear out much faster, so if you have at least two pairs to alternate between per season, both will last much longer than if you have one pair at a time that is worn every day, so to speak. Then leather sneakers need conditioner or shoe polish from time to time, and suede, nubuck, textile and synthetic need waterproofing. More on this and how to clean sneakers below.
How do you clean sneakers?
We sell what is probably the world's best sneaker cleaner, Tarrago WASC! Sneakers super cleaner. It works for sneakers made of smooth leather, suede, synthetics or textiles (and by all means other types of shoes, some even have it as a stain remover for clothes since it's so effective). Use a damp cloth or brush and work up a lather to dissolve the dirt, then wipe off with a damp cloth. Once the sneakers have dried after a few hours, treat them with conditioner or shoe polish if it's leather, or waterproofing spray if it's suede, nubuck or textile.
How do you keep sneakers white?
To start, you should follow some of the advices above, those about brushing/wiping the shoes when you get home, to prevent dirt from settling. And about cleaning them regularly and caring for them for nourishing and protection. For white leather sneakers we have Saphir Medaille d'Or Creme Pommadier shoe cream which provides excellent care, protection and not least covers over marks and re-colours. Then for white soles we have Tarrago Sneakers Total White, which is a top coat that makes the soles crisp white again. You can wear it on the upper if it's synthetic leather too, but we don't recommend using it on real leather as the conditioning agents you want to use on the leather don't penetrate as well then.
