Why use shoe trees?

Using a pair of wooden shoe trees will allow your shoes to retain their original shape and dry properly, smooth out creases and ensure that the toe of the shoe does not rise up. Always using shoe trees extends the life of your shoes considerably. Good for your shoes, for your wallet and not least for the environment.

What are the benefits of cedar wood?

The red cedar shoe trees have great moisture-absorbing properties, they remove any odour and also keep insect pests away. Wooden shoe trees do not clog the pores of the leather and allow it to breathe properly during the drying process.

What size should my shoe trees be in?

The shoe trees should fill out the shoes properly, without pressing too hard and risking damaging the shape of the shoes. Perhaps the most important function is to straighten the sole, smoothen creases and ensure that the toe of the shoe doesn't rise. Some air in certain areas of the shoe is normal and not a problem. Avoid shoe trees with springs, as they put the wrong load on the shoes and stretch them upwards while putting pressure on a specific point in the heel. All our shoe trees straighten the shoe horizontally in a good and gentle way, and some have a split toe which makes them more flexible for different sized shoes. Read more about which size to choose for your shoe trees in the product descriptions.

Which shoe trees should I have for boots?

Our regular shoe trees work great for boots as well, since the most important task for shoe trees is to straighten the sole and smoothen creases, which these do well. There are various special trees for boots, the problem with these is that they almost never fill out the shaft properly, and then add nothing beyond what regular shoe trees do, other than making them more bulky. The only trees that add anything for boots are three-piece lasted shoe trees for that particular boot, where the entire shaft is actually filled. If you have knee-high boots, you can combine regular shoe trees with boot stretchers.

How long should shoe trees stay in your shoes?

It's ideal to have well-fitting shoe trees in at least all your leather shoes at all times. But it's by far most important to have them in the first 24 hours, since it's when the leather dries that it tends to shrink and really needs help maintaining its shape to prevent the toe from rising and forming heavy creases that risk cracking over time. So having one pair of shoe trees that you put in the shoes you've worn for the day (because you should always have at least two pairs of shoes per season to alternate between, since otherwise shoes don't have time to completely dry, and damp shoes wear out much faster) makes a big difference, even if they are moved to the next pair the next day, because then the shoes have dried and don't need the help of the trees in the same way.

Which shoe trees are suitable for travelling?

When you're on the move, the most important thing is that the shoe trees are lightweight, which is why we offer lightweight plastic shoe trees for travel. They don't allow shoes to breathe as well as wooden trees, so shouldn't be used as everyday shoe trees, but they help maintain the shape of your shoes and straighten out creases nicely, so they're perfect to have with you when you're on the move.

Why should I use boot stretchers?

If you have knee-high leather boots, adding boot stretchers is an excellent choice. This will prevent the shaft from collapsing and losing its shape over time. It's good to combine the boot stretchers with our regular shoe trees, which hold the shape of the actual foot part of the boot, while the stretchers hold the shape of the shaft. Boot stretchers ensure that your tall boots dry properly, and extend the life of your precious boots.
